Characteristics of Clean Rooms for the aerospace sector

Carefully monitored and controlled contamination, pressure, temperature and humidity levels are essential in any Clean Room, particularly those used for the aerospace sector. More specifically, horizontal laminar flow Clean Rooms are recommended for satellite assembly, as these have the capacity for dealing with the large components involved.

With regard to the manufacturing of composite fibres, it is important to prevent any dust from being present between the various layers of fabric during adhesive application, as this would affect their performance. This step is fundamental, as the composite fibres will later become an integral part of satellites and aircraft.

The purpose of the Clean Room is to protect these and other aerospace processes from dust or external agents.

Technical requirements and relevant standards

Clean Rooms are classified by the technical requirements they have to satisfy. These requirements are set out in the cleanliness classes:

ranging from ISO1 to ISO 9, these classes have different parameters regarding the maximum number of particles per m³ which can be present in the air, as well as temperature, pressure and humidity levels.

The internationally recognised ISO 14644 standard, which must be complied with at every stage involved in creating a Clean Room, serves as a reference point for these classifications and other aspects concerning Clean Rooms.

Training

We have developed our own training service with the aim of providing our clients with the information and instructions they need about how to use their Clean Room in the best way. Operators trained by our specialised technicians will therefore be able to ensure that the Clean Room is in optimum working order, keep it compliant with current regulations, and ensure that the Clean Room always performs to the highest standards.

Scheduled Maintenance and Remote Assistance

The purpose of our Scheduled-Maintenance service is to ensure that the Clean Room remains in excellent working order, like on day one.

Our specialist technicians carry out regular visits to the Clean Room, check its parameters, inspect components subject to wear and tear, and carry out repairs or replace parts where necessary. They also check to ensure that the air-conditioning systems are functioning properly.

This work prolongs the life of the Clean Room and saves a great deal of time and money. Clients who choose Galvani are supported by Clean Room experts, do not have to hire their own maintenance technician, and avoid potential stoppages caused by poor maintenance.

Each Clean Room is also equipped for our Remote-Assistance service: our experts can remotely view, log and modify the parameters of the Clean Room directly from our offices, allowing them to take action promptly when required and ensure the room remains in excellent working order.

Comfort Rate

The Comfort Rate system introduced by Galvani was born out of the desire to ensure that due care and attention is paid to the health and well-being of Clean Room operators, which in turn results in increased productivity.

This numerical scale is used to measure the level of comfort in a Clean Room: the classes range from 1 to 6, taking parameters such as the quality of the ventilation and air-distribution systems, the temperature of the air supplied, the desired room temperature and the coverage factor into account.

Solutions

In the aerospace sector, there are many operations that require contamination-free environments. We at Galvani have bespoke solutions for any setting and process, as well as specialist consultants who can provide the guidance you need to choose the perfect Clean Room for your company.

Galvani Clean Rooms

A Clean Room is a closed, controlled-contamination environment: air cleanliness, temperature, humidity and pressure levels are kept under constant control, so that processes and operations that require a clean and well-monitored environment can be carried out inside.
